Organizational Coach who is working to transform systems and culture.
I am so thrilled to present my friend Denisse Vega and her amazing work in this latest edition CONNECT. She is one of the most agile minds I know, and over the past nine years has been bringing her diverse experience and perspective to clients as a coach. Her blend of neuroscience and engineering alongside her passion for people and investment in their growth makes me refer to her as Brain Hacktivist. Denisse’s belief in power of people to achieve their goals when they embrace their curiosity, and commit to what they set their minds to is truly inspiring. Enjoy!
What brought you to this work?
I was a Senior Program Manager for a Software Development Services company that was hired to become an Operations manager, yet this promotion didn't happen for 5 years. When I dared to asked why I was told that I have always been ready but the VP of Operations (from Dallas, TX) thought that a mostly male operation wouldn't follow me because I was female. That he even thought I was a bitch (he meant it as a compliment), but that the company didn't understand how I was able to have 0 attrition in a 30 engineer operation for a single client. I had a lot of political situations before that conversation happened. They decided that they could give me a director role in HR. I had no other job offerings and I couldn't leave my city which offers very little opportunities for technology people with my background, and I had just gave birth to my son (the conversation happened when I returned from maternity leave). I accepted to move into an Organizational Development role, where I got the challenge to modify the culture and move it to a more coach like one. From there I started researching, and that's where it all started.
What do you feel is important about the coaching work you do?
People are so often asked to be experts that forget to be curious. Without curiosity we can not go beyond our own established limits.
What do you feel is the best time for someone to work with a coach?
When they feel they are ready to make a change in their life and can commit to it.
What do you hope clients gain from working with you?
A different way to see life and creative ways to identify all their options. Finding the way of their own life, their own way.
What's something that inspires you that you'd like to share?
Nature, the stars, my kids, my cats
What are you most excited about right now?
I love to learn and I love to learn how the brain works, but lately I'm learning about all this new things that as a scientist or as an engineer it was hard to even believe. Be in peace with the whole and becoming the whole is something that has been impacting me lately. I'm super excited to work with people and companies and also I'm excited to see how can I welcome this part of the whole to co-create a world where people can tear down the borders that prevent them from being who they need to be.
